Most people who enrol in a kinesiology training program want things to happen quickly. This article begins an explanation series and explains why it important to begin the right way, to begin with training in the right topics and to put into practice your newly learned skills.


When I was learning to play tennis it wasn't long before I thought I was a champion until my coach moved me to the advanced classes and I played in a few tournaments.

Then; back to earth with a crunch. You wise and learned person reading this will now understand that in any endeavour you must first learn the craft, then practice what you have learned, then work harder than ever to master your new found skills.

So what has tennis got to do with a kinesiology training program? Well most of the initial presentation doesn't explain is how difficult it is to get started and to acquire the skills needed for success as a Kinesiologist.

Simply put people go onto the web or "Internet", with an idea which they think will transform their lives; then get involved with all the hype which seems to transform the way they think to the point that "this looks so easy" and "so this is the way a (kinesiology) business operates, I can do this"!

For many new people to the Internet or wanting to learn "online", this maybe their first venture into a professional business so having spent your money you want to be sure about how to really begin a kinesiology business and often are tentative in their initial approaches.

This is good because you now realise you must work in the right way within the right team and with the right tools as there is simply too much to do yourself.

To be successful in Kinesiology, new students need to learn from someone who is already successful. When a new kinesiology practitioner knows how to proceed, they can build their client list with confidence.

As every person is unique in how they choose to heal, it is impossible to say how you will feel after a Kinesiology session.

Comments that have been made indicate how varied the initial responses can be: I am walking straighter, I feel lighter, I feel calmer, My head feels clearer, I feel very tired, I just want to sleep, I feel very energetic, I feel more alive, The pain has gone, I can move better.

Sometimes the benefits of the Kinesiology session are felt immediately, sometimes it takes a little time to settle in, and sometimes the symptoms can get worse before getting better.

Tiredness;
If you feel tired, after a Kinesiology session then give into the tiredness and try to do a little as possible for the rest of the day and perhaps the evening. This is "giving" your newly retrieved energy (from all those limitations and previously unresolved issues) and allowing your innate healing ability to use the energy to further your own healing. Energy is required to reorganise the neurology, to improve your posture, resolve emotional stress, or whatever it is that your healing path needs to do. It is important that now you have new energy, use it to heal yourself.


Feeling very energetic;
The key here is not to "spend" all your newfound energy. I recommend that you don't go and party all night, or mow the lawns, or spring clean the house - at least not straight away! Nurture yourself - give yourself the gift of your energy for your own healing.


Changes can be dramatic and quick. Improvements and changes can be immediate or can be gradual. Be open to the results and benefits that are forthcoming.

Changes may also be slow the body as it deals with its new choices.

Pamper Yourself;
After your visit to Val's Clinic, try and relax. Give your Mind/Body healing time. Relaxation is good.


Healing takes time;
Continue to observe your healing processes. Write up a private diary about your feelings. The mind/body seeks an innate sense of balance, but sometimes the assistance given to re-establish that balance can make you tired or feel out of sorts for a few days. Don't worry this is normal, comprehensive healing often takes time. We have many resources that enable us to heal ourselves; we also have many influences that can limit our healing. 


Training our nervous system to use these resources gives us the ability to better influence our own health. By understanding these limiting influences and what to do about them will increases our ability to create health and to realise our potential.

Genetic Inheritance and Human Behaviour;
We have an innate ability to heal ourselves if we can. When for some reason we can't heal, our mind/body will let us know that there is an unresolved problem that we need to pay conscious attention to; It does so with symptoms.


Rather than just managing or suppressing those symptoms, Kinesiology seeks to find what it is that is maintaining the symptoms; what it is, that the body/mind is unable to resolve and then what is needed for the resolution and healing to take place.

The essential art of Kinesiology includes muscle testing. This technique relies on the way your muscles are connected to your brain via your nervous system. Anything that registers in your brain as a stress is reflected in your nervous system and in your muscles.

Using muscle testing with specific references and challenges, Kinesiology allows your brain to reveal what stresses you. This can be any kind of stress - anything to do with your health, work, finances, relationships, goals, specific events in your life….anything at all.

Kinesiology then seeks the best solution; the best technique/s for that particular problem; one that will train your nervous system and enhance you own natural healing and recuperation ability.

As people - How do we Heal?
Kinesiology has traditionally focused on techniques and over the years developed new ones and enhanced existing ones. Primarily my approach is one of 'integrating' the healing of the Physical, Mental and Emotional aspects of a person while respecting the forms of traditional and other natural therapies.


Function and healing is about how well we can adapt to the many challenges in our life. It is about the expression of our values, within ourselves, in our family, in society, and within the Universal Laws. This research also incorporates how best to apply techniques in a way that honour the natural laws of healing, creating a philosophy that is fundamentally different to other existing approaches.

We have 'options' in way our neurology functions. These 'options' once we are aware of them, can therefore show how we are healing and provide information as to why we may not be on our healing path.

One neurology option is survival. Taking this option we focus on defending or perhaps compensating for the things we feel we cannot change. This option often provides 'No Choice' in the way we feel, often suppressing those things that we have no solutions for.

The other option is living. Taking this option we focus on solutions and become successful in re-training our neurological expression. When 'living' we focus on our potential, our opportunities, our life direction, our healing and our quality of spirit, and all of which enhance our 'living' quality of life.

We are alive because!
In simple terms we are alive because of a number of systems within the body that work together.
These are:
Our blood circulation and breathing systems,
Our internal organ systems liver, kidneys etc,
Our skin system, which extends inside our body,
Our joints, tendons, muscles and the connective nerves,
Our nervous, electrical, and muscle systems,
Our digestive and repairs systems,
Our five main senses; Touch, sight, hearing, smells and taste which allow us to react with the outside world.
Our emotional systems that affects our physiology and behaviour.
Our mental systems that reflect our behaviours and attitudes.
The main thing Kinesiology does is to provide a stimulus to the brain and energy systems so a “Release” or a “Falling Away” of an issue can be completed. Because the issue causing the symptoms has now “Fallen Away”, the symptoms can then disappear completely.


Quite a statement isn't it but Holistic healing is not a new concept. As a Kinesiology practitioner I also work holistically. The power of the work I do is astonishing and because it involves each person's individual neurology, the total 'Being' of a person, the mind, the physical body and the attached emotions are all treated together resulting in very positive healing experience.

The Healing Process. - It can take time
Stresses, traumas, injuries, unresolved grief, and emotional problems - all the things that limit our health use up our energy while we trying to cope with them. The Kinesiology I do can facilitate the resolution of these limitations. As a person clears their limitations and stresses they regain their energy for further healing.

When a person starts on the path of re-healing himself/herself, a healing crisis may occur. A healing crisis is generally misunderstood, but when it is understood, the person looks forward to, and enjoys thoroughly the thought of having a healing crisis.
A healing crisis is simply the body cleansing itself, of emotional stresses, of misperceptions, and cleansing its tissues, replacing the old tissues with new. A cleansing crisis is something which is quite often needed by the body to eliminate toxins (emotional and physical) from the deeper recesses otherwise not touched.

In this process the person may experience some old symptoms, as the healing process “takes a look” at the unresolved “stuff” and starts to heal it. Don't worry this is a normal reaction.

It’s a wonderful thing to see and how people can truly reverse the process of degeneration and bring themselves back to a better health state.

With the use of Kinesiology we can reduce, if not completely eliminate the discomfort produced while a person is going through a healing crisis. However, it is a fact that sometimes when a person is going through a healing crisis, it can be more appropriate not to do any balancing as the person is already balancing him/herself. To intervene may deflect energy away from the healing process.

It is often difficult to identify the difference between the healing crisis and a degenerative process. With Kinesiology we can identify the crisis straight away and allow the active healing power of the person to carry them through the healing they need to go through.

It is sometimes difficult for a person to accept the fact that the healing crisis comes at the time when they are feeling their best. Invariably a person will say “but I was feeling really well, it was the best I had felt in my life”.
Because there is energy now available for healing, it is at this time you can often expect the crisis to occur, and it is at this time when the crisis can do its best work. When a person increases their available energy and when that energy gets to an excess, the excess is used by themselves to facilitate their own recovery. At this time the body can do its greatest work. It’s literally ridding the old so the new can take its place.

As you become more aware of your healing and take more responsibility for your own healing you will begin to recognise your own healing path. You will begin to look forward and enjoy the healing process. A few things that may help are:

Emotional Stress Release (ESR).
When you are looking for a new idea or option, when you have a problem to solve, when you are feeling stressed, ESR can help. Sit (or lie) in a comfortable position, place one hand across the back of your head; this is the cerebella region of the brain, where your history is stored; this is how you have "done" the problem in the past. Place your other hand across your forehead. This is your "thinking" area; your imagination where you can come up with a new option, a solution to the problem. 


Hold the hands on your own head until you feel less stressed and anxious, until a feeling of calm begins to take over. You will find that you can think more clearly with less stress, and solutions will be more easily found.

Essences for Stress
If you have a stressful event coming up, such as exams, interviews, a deadline to meet. Whether the stress involves work, family, health or finance events, an essence may be just the support you need. I can make up an Essence to suit your individual needs. Many people need some form of recuperation during their life. It is often a low level of recuperation but sometimes a more long term recuperation is required.

Some of the warning signs could be lack of confidence, poor self-image, negativity and failure in our lives on a daily basis; whereas these manifestations you are normally not apparent when all is well with you and you are in good health.

Most of us try to 'cover up' this feeling of self worth by showing forced and 'artificial' behaviour. Watch TV, open the newspaper, listen to the radio, or visit news sites on the Internet and you’ll immediately notice that the amount of human bad luck, human failure and disaster one is exposed to is disheartening.

Avoiding these sources of news and “entertainment” because you can’t stand the amount of negativity that infiltrates your mind can can often boost your energy-state as your "identification with these events lessens. 

Recuperation is often required when feelings overwhelm us. The feeling of discomfort, unhappiness, anger, fear, procrastination, frustration, shyness and incapability, all act to deplete our energies. This array of negative thought processes and sensations causes people to look for artificial ways to cover up their lack of confidence by taking on forced or unnatural behaviours. Here are three of the most common ways of covering up a negativity which may show us that a recuperation program may be necessary:

1) Forced and unhealthy communication.
Forced acts of communication are ways we relate with each other in an unnatural and destructive way. Examples of unproductive communication could be uncontrolled anger, screaming or abusive language, or making unfair or unproductive remarks. When we feel uncomfortable in social situations or have a fear that you think it is being controlled by another, we try to gain the upper hand by dominating the other person in some manner.

For example, your spouse might make a remark that you allow to cause you to feel poorly about yourself or to feel you have been attacked in some way. The words of others can also negatively impact on our recuperation path if we allow them to do so.

Most of the time, we react to what someone says, or they bring up something that is disagreeable to us and this criticism which is justified in their eyes maybe not how we see it in ourselves. This reactive feeling is all too often a sign that more recuperation is required. As a result of feeling threatened, you might counter with an aggressive or hostile remark of your own. Before long, you have unintentionally begun a downward spiral in communication that will surely erode your relationship over time.

Lacking recuperation likewise impacts all other areas of life. Additional examples include fear of public speaking, ineffective professional communication, pursuing a carrier that is not in alignment with one’s passions and life-purpose, dating or even marrying people that do not match up well with our most important values because we fear we may not attract our ideal partner, and bringing up children to be fear-based, reactive, or unhealthy in their perceptions of the world and in their relationships with others.

2) Sleeping Excessively in order to Escape from Reality.
Do you know anyone who “sleeps their time away?” For countless people, sleeping is a way to escape their painful feelings of incapability, fear, discomfort, unworthiness, and weakness. These feelings stem from the interpretation that one is somehow unlovable or not good enough and are ultimately and means more recuperation by you may be very useful. These "energy drainers" can cause internal friction that makes us tired and then comes the feeling of can't cope.

They also result in having us want to escape those situations instead of coping with them in an appropriate and effective manner. For many people sleeping is the easiest escape rather than learning to face life’s challenges. Sleeping is a means of recuperation - so upon awakening, all challenges can be coped with more easily with fresh energy. However many people don’t use sleep for the purpose of regenerating energy. They numb their pain with ‘chronic sleeping’ as an escape from reality. As an escape strategy, problems remain unaddressed and unsolved and so tend to become worse with the passing of time.

3) Use of Alcohol, Drugs, and Cigarettes.
As an active observer of people’s coping strategies, notice how often so many look for ways to numb the pain rather than address the source of their challenges. Many find comfort in cigarettes as a stress reliever. The underlying source of mental stress and bodily tension is often diminished is because recuperation is not complete.

So often, people condition themselves to turn to alcohol or drugs after experiencing a stressful event. Rather than deal with the causes of life’s disappointments, relationship challenges, or ineffective communication, it’s often easier to look for ways to forget about the problems by turning to alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs. Of course, these destructive forms of escaping the uncomfortable feelings that are caused by low confidence, a bad self-image and poor recuperation often result in compounded health and social challenges of their own.

In addition to their harmful physical effects, drugs and alcohol amplify negative feelings and thus result in further destructive behaviour. In this way, they compound the already present challenges and result in a worsening, vicious cycle of greater proportions.

Here are more prime examples of where insufficient recuperation from injury can occur. Easternview Recuperation CentreWhat is the kinesiology I actually do?

The way I use Kinesiology in my Easternview Recuperation Centre is a unique approach to resolving longstanding health issues. My methods rely on changes happening in a person's neurology. This then enables recuperation from illness or accident resulting in improved health.

This is my specialty, discovering through Kinesiology what the contextual conflict is that is maintaining symptoms being experienced.

By assisting a person in the re-training of their nervous system to a more appropriate response within the natural laws of healing, allows the person to not only become functional without the symptoms, but also assists in their long term healing.

Why does it Work?
Your Nervous System has its own focus on what it learns. This learning becomes part of the subconscious response to the needs of life. Consciously you don't pay much attention to the Nervous System, (even when things 'go wrong'). You don't realize your Nervous System is learning and that what it learns will become what you do. In fact, your Nervous System has already learned a lot that you don't consciously know about at all.


What if what it has already learned is in direct opposition to what you want to do consciously? What we do is give the subconscious new and better options to what it already knows so it can change its preferences. When we do this, the Nervous System will act out the new options as if they had always been there and so your behaviours change.

When I say "behaviour", I mean the 'Nervous System control of your behaviour'. Not just what you do out of conscious reasoning. The Nervous System's behaviour include how you think, feel, act in specific circumstances and even how you create life patterns.

How does it work?
The Nervous System is vast in its connections and ability to control all your functions. We have discovered a number of neurological functions which can be broken up into different categories or options that can influence how the Nervous System operates. This gives us a large number of 'types' of Neuro-Training.


Encouraging your Nervous System to function better, generally by using specific checking processes will find the best option for you to function better. This allows us to associate the best options to the existing conditioning and therefore change the limitations within your subconscious into supportive links.

We use a system of monitoring the changes of muscle response as a way of 'listening' to what your subconscious is saying.

The ability to use muscles as a feedback mechanism is a phenomena of the Nervous System which gives us the ability to use its own language to show how your functions change. This feedback tells us what type of new options to associate with your Nervous System which will assist you to better achieve your desired outcome.

How we associate these options may be through a variety of experiences from physical reflex stimulation to cognitive exercises. This makes new realizations in your subconscious by changing how the Nervous System is processing information. Once the 'new information' is associated to the Nervous System your subconscious will do the rest in how it wants to apply it.

We can continue to associate new options until you have enough new information to function in a completely different (and better) way.

You may have already realized there is an enormous amount of conditioning in the Nervous System from the past, but you only need to associate 'new information' to the specific conditioning that is stopping you from achieving what you want consciously.

Hi I'm Valerie Walters

This  article is about my Kinesiology Clinic. I have a life passion for kinesiology and these pages are a great medium to share this passion with you so, take time to view the contents.

I began my interest in alternative lifestyle and medicines reading about ancient cultures when still in my teens. After many years working in commerce, I made the decision to take my interest in alternative medicine, from interest to career. I was introduced to, and fascinated by, muscle testing by a Chiropractor, who had, for many years, been using this wonderful skill for diagnosis, combining it with Chiropractic for treatment. When I discovered that muscle testing was more than a valuable tool used by many natural therapist, but part of the complete science of Kinesiology, I was “hooked” and started studying (and haven’t stopped!).
